Calvin Mutunzi, stage name Kay-C was born in Zimbabwe on the 7th of November 1989. The talented lyricist lived there for 9 yrs until he moved to England in 1999. This is when he began listening to a range of music and exposing himself to different sounds. Hip Hop had always been a part of his life as a kid groeing up. When he turned 10yrs he began to listening to his favourite artists and rewritting their lyrics and memorising them.
This is when he began to understand in more depth in terms of the structure of songs i.e bars ect. Kay-C started writting his own lyrics at the tender age of 10 and by the time he turned 11 had decided that music was what he wanted to do and his goal was to be a successful rapper. His brother Brian was also very much into music and was one of Kay-Cs biggest inspirations, helping him with how to count bars, write rhymes, freestyle etc. It was his brother who gave Calvin the name Kay-C which has become Calvins stage name and has stuck with it since. Kay-C also has two other alter ego’s Viz and The Black Super Hero As kids both Kay-C and his brother were exposed to a lot of music, they began producing their own beats, recording tracks and performed at various talent showcases ect. In 2006 Kay-C moved to Manchester which is where he is living right now. When he moved Kay-C stopped music for about a year and football became his number priority but he realised music was his passion and now is in da progress of making a mixtape.
