Growing up, Colin bounced around areas of Minneapolis as a kid and finds himself unable to associate any area with the feeling of ‘home’. After the divorce of his parents at a young age, Colin witnessed the constant struggles of his musician father, Johnny Hodges. Johnny was a Detroit native and an opening performer for several Motown acts including The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, and Stevie Wonder. Colin observed his father’s marginal ‘opening act fame’ and moderate success with him. Then the tables turned and Colin later found himself hitting the road with his father to quench some thirsty bills. Colin recalls many nights and weeks spent on the road with his father living in hotels only afforded by the money earned from that night’s gig. At the very young age of 6, Colin was becoming accustomed to the struggles associated with being a musician and trying to be heard. Colin “caught the bug” to be a musician from his father; also his grandfather’s contagious influence thru sharing long listening sessions of Classic Jazz records. -------
As a kid there would be countless days when Colin would play his father’s Temptations albums until he had learned and could sing every Band Members individual part.------

Soon there after, Colin stumbled onto Jimi Hendrix’s Band of Gypsy’s album discovering his inspirational fuel for electric guitar in the ballad of “Machine Gun”. At first Colin only was listener. Soon after, Colin picked up his first broom to play along to Jimi’s music. He began his journey to learn guitar at age 17 by way of experimentation and reading guitar books. Within the year, Colin taught himself basic guitar while balancing playing basketball at De La Salle High School in Minneaplois. Colin would receive standing ovations in talent shows for his self taught new found passion and has been playing ever since. As an individual, Colin was able to identify with Jimi’s universal racial appeal and encouragement towards avoiding useless categories. Colin uncovered some of the same parallels with Bob Marley’s human unity message to the world. Colin considers himself to be a successful combination of both black and white origins not fitting the mold of any racial category. A “day walker” of sorts; he feels most comfortable without being classified based on aesthetics.------

These experiences serve as a shapeable platform which Colin evolves as an artist and as a man. More recently with the debut of his Casual Confusion project, Colin has seen many of the same events occur that he watched his Dad go thru, but in the pages of his own life. Colin sees his past as what prepares him to chase his dreams of being a artist with something to say relevant to everyday life and leading to the pursuit of change. "My overall goal is to eliminate all the unessential’s and flow like water".------
By banding together with other muscians, producers, and Colin will continue to musically achieve this with one step at a time. Today Colin is composing and collaborating new songs with new musicians after his critiaclly acclaimed 'Casual Confusion' album. Colin played 120+ shows in Mineapolis in the last 2 years and has goals of tapping new markets.
